Thought I would start a thread to see if folk are finding some stockers this week in Portland Metropolitan/Willamette Valley areas.
I hit Hagg Lake for a few hours Sunday (3/25) with a couple of Boy Scouts and just found it plain dead. Some soft bumps on chartreuse power bait on a 24" leader - but either I got cleaned or they moved on. Dead, dead, dead - only one stocker taken that I heard of. Water looked good - though I didn't take a temperature. Morning front that moved through could have put the bite off - I dunno. Seemed to me it should have been the opposite .....
We tried Bethany Pond on the way home for an hour - dead, dead, and dead. Pond is muddy - but some clarity (about 1 foot) - fishable. Tried worms under a bobber as well as power bait. Tried lengthening the leader to 3 feet - just not biting. Saw someone hook (key word hook) and lost a big carp on a Kastmaster. Some excitement at least.
Boys had a good time - that is what it is all about.
Hopefully, others are finding the secrets to these fish.
My guess is that these stockers stay schooled up and you just have to move or wait for a pod to come into your area - and then make sure you have a good bait for presentation. I guess that is why it is called fishing.
