I am taking my kids and their friends for 4 days of trout fishin over spring break at Devil's Lake. I only know that this lake is shallow. Any special areas, lures, bait and tactics I can use here. Thanks much

In my avatar- the one with the spots- I call it the Devil's Lake Special- for good reason. Get some - both sizes. Troll it fairly fast. I like the north and south ends of the lake, but also nearly every "point" around the lake usually has a fish or two. Now that it's been stocked they should be everywhere. Remember to keep only clipped fish- natives must be released. Good luck!

Ooops!- not the frog spotted lure- the trout spots!

are you flat line trolling these, with or without spinners, and are you tipping the lure with any bait?
Thanks.

Flatlining yes, usually just one split shot. I almost never use any bait on a Needlefish (at Devil's I can say never) - however, I have seen it work- just be sure to use a small enough piece so as not to affect the action of the lure too much.

I'm basically lazy- that's why I prefer a lure to bait- normally a Needlefish will be very effective by itself-BUT if you're in Rome and the Romans are catching fish with bait and you're not- time to get the hands dirty!

I saw a few peole were heading there last weekend- how' you do?
