This was my last trip to LBC for the season. Cove palisades is now closed for repairs until mid May so you have to cross the bridge and launch at the 2nd ramp on the Deschutes or all the way to Perry South.
Took Herring Problem and we never got a fish to the boat all day. Had a few good hits and used a new "secret weapon" leader set up and several different herring combos and several different plugs. Ran the downriggers all day from 25-100 feet.
Saw elklaker up by Pery South fishing with his brother and they had caught 2 by noon, he can fill you in later. Wind came up about 12:30 and picked up steadily and we got off the water about 2:30.
Wish I had a better report:shrug: The fish checker said only 2 keepers for about 20-30 boats at that point.
Hopefully I can get into Crescent in early April and I'll have fish pics to post again.

Thanks for the closure info and fishing report. Looking forward to fishing Crescent Lake too, this spring. Looks like it'll be fuller than it's been for a few years.

We ended up catching 5 in the 16" range and one kokanee by accident. Had a first today though.... an eagle picked up one of the fish I was reeling in so I jerked on the pole and he dropped it from about 20 feet in the air. He took 2 more swipes at it before he gave up. That made our whole day. My brother lost one that fought like a keeper. Also saw 25 elk cross the road at Three Rivers. It was good to see you out there Joe and Herring Problem. What a great day for oddities.

Sorry about your luck Joe. This was by far my worst year (ok only 3 trips) at LBC, :hoboy: but in the past it was great fishing between Christmas and March. I am also finished with LBC this year until Christmas and I am going on my first trip to Crescent Lake tomorrow with hookjawfreak. Lets hope I do better with the Browns than I did with the Bulls. Only 5 hours till the alarm goes off. I better get off this computer soon. I hope to see you on the water this spring .

Sorry I posted my report on your thread. When I try to start a thread, by the time I get done writing it, the computer says I'm not logged in. So I log in and click on the submit and it sends me to a blank page and the thread does not show up anywhere. I thought since it was on the same subject (i.e. LBC 3/24 ) that I could just expand a little on your report. Didn't mean to hijack your thread.

Bobr_n_eggs and I fished mainly in the Metolious arm from about 700 to 330. We ended up boating two, on herring, both undersized. Both were hooked in the 70-75 foot range. Good time, great weather, but a little windy. Thanks to all the ifishers for the input that they gave me. I'll give it a try a little earlier in the year next year.

Ok so I'm slow to reply, "Thanks Fish on Bend" for a great day on the water. Although the secret weapon didn't bring home the bacon, He had one drive by that mangled a large herring .
Rob bending and tugs and that fish missed the hooks. I thought salmon had a patent on missing hooks. Wrong these bulls have trained well!
The one good thing was, I didn't catch a fish that was over 21 inches as Moldy45 threaten to whoop on me if we pulled one in larger than he had the previous week. Saved again, for the time being that is. :jester: :help:
Thanks!

Hey, I'm just curious as I have never fished LBC, why do you stop fishing it just as spring arrives? Is it regs or the big bulls just hunker down? Thanks.

For me ---3 reasons.
1-The big bulls work their way upriver as the water warms getting ready for the fall spawn
2-As the weather warms, water skiers, jet skiers and obnoxiuos partyers crowd the water and other lakes open up and become better choices
3-Catch rates for me have been my worst ever this past winter.
In the past LBC has been a good local choice for winter fishing that is normally uncrowded and productive during a time of year that most local guys don't even think about fishing.

Thanks for all the reports, pictures and insights to the Bull fishing at LBC. I hope to hit it later in April after work settles down a little.

FOB, thanks for the insight, I also dislike the "buzz" of all the jet skiers, etc. We get them here on the Willamette and it makes fishing less than relaxing. I "know" you fish when most folks won't venture on the water, thank you for all the great picture posts and reports this year!
