My buddies and I are heading towards the bitterroot for the skwala hatch. Any suggestion on which section of the bitterroot to fish??? Looking for some browns. Thanks!

The river needs to drop before it will fish well but there are many adult skwalas out. The forecast is getting colder so that should allow the river to drop properly in the next few days. The hardest part is finding water "soft" enough to hold fish, things are moving pretty fast. Deep droppers and tandem nymph rigs should help you get into them if the skwala hatch isn't producing. The mid to upper river is where I would fish if I was you. It will be the first to drop and the browns are prevalent. Are you fishing from a raft/drift boat or from the bank. That will make the decision where to fish alot easier.

We don't have a boat or rafts so we will be banking it. Any markers to look for in the upper?? Thanks for the info.

Things have dropped river wide in the last few days so fishing is really starting to bounce back. Any fishing access on the mid-upper river will give you planty of water to fish. Bell Crossing is not a bad choice which is 6 miles south of Stevensville. That is the lowest I would fish on the river next week. That area has many browns. Other good fishing acess points are Wally Crawford and Hannon Memorial which are on the upper part of the river. Good Luck!

Any local fly shop can give you a detailed report for that day and steer you in a good direction too.
