I have a 15 foot Alaskan and am riggin a new rockin chair style anchor with puller. I doubt I will ever fish the big C, mostly lower Willamatte and Siletz. So how long an anchor chain is realistic and what thickness? I did look in the archives but must be doing it wrong. Thanks much

6ft of 5/16 chain on a 20lb rocker holds my alaskan nicely.

I had a 13' Smoker with a custom made 15lb rocker and only had 2' of chain, never a problem. I now have a 17.5' Smoker with a 26lb rocker anchor and still have no problem holding, even in the Columbia. I don't fish around Bonneville in that rippin' current though, and only times I've slipped is a time or two around the mouth of the Sandy on some of that smooth super hard flat sand bottom that's out there, other boats were slipping too though. Alot of it has to do with the angle of the rope, too little rope out will cause you to slip. It makes it much easier to deploy and retrieve the anchor when there's less chain. It wouldn't be hard to try 2', and then add more if it wasn't enough for you.

I've got a 22lb rocker with 6 feet of chain on my alaskan. Works great for the Columbia.

6' of 5/16". 6' of 5/8" would weigh almost as much as the anchor you would need.

 5/16" is the correct number.
