OK I am a flatlander from eastern WA most of my fishing has been on small lakes. I now live by Banks Lake( 30 mile resevoir ) Lake Roosevelt (120 miles of river ) and Rufus Woods ( below the dam 50 miles of fast moving river). I have a 22 foot starcraft that is getting new motors I got the t 8 Yamaha. Now what kind of fishfinder gps do I need. I will be trolling at no deeper than 120 feet. For trout and in the eddies for walleye or whatever else I can find. As usual I am probably looking at more than I need, my budget is $2,000. I want to be able to see what is down their. Never had to worry about it too much on small lakes my fishfinder was more of a depth gauge than anything.

That is a pretty rich budget. Consider Furuno for the fishfinder. Furuno is commercial fishing grade, loaded with features and very durable. Garmin is the leader in GPS.

:agree:
I have that same unit and a Garmin 498 as backup. The Furuno is a better unit. The Furuno uses 10g wire for power and ground and the Garmin is about 14g. The Furuno is easier and faster to navigate the menus, and has more setup options. The Cmap-Max charts on the Furuno has better detail. The Garmin has a inland lakes chip available ($75 from Amazon) I'm not sure what Cmap has for inland lake maps. Neither mapping comes with inland lakes so if you want inland lakes you will need to buy a chip. The split map with the Furuno is nicer since you have a wider screen. Furuno tech support and repair is in Camas WA, I was able to talk to a tech on the phone, show up 2 hrs later, meet the guy and have him fix my unit while I waited. For a 2K budget you can't go wrong with the 7000.

you can get a Lowrance LCX-104c from Cabelas right now for $1200.
It has a GPS and 10.4" diag. screen. Thats a deal and you will never want anything bigger!

WITH OUT A DOUBT, I had one of these and sold it for a 10" unit, what a mistake. I would rebuy it again no doubt.

The Furuno GP7000F is a FF/Chartplotter the other is not. Take the price on Furuno's website with a grain of salt you can get the units for less.

That is a awesome deal! when this unit was current it cost over $2000. My neighbor has one and got me hooked on larger screens. I bought a lcx 110c and wish this deal was around when I bought mine a few weeks ago. Jump on it.

That is a very good price I paid about $1500 for mine and I thought that was good. The chips run about $175 to $200. You will also need a transducer they run about $75 for the 600 watt.

I have the Humminbird 987c (now replaced by the 997c). For water less than 200 feet deep the sidefinder feature is unique and really helps find fish holding cover on the bottom. Larger screen than most units and a very high pixel count. Best fishfinder/gps I've ever owned, and the most versatile.

My wife said it was OK to tell you that was really funny....
If you buy the Lowrance (that Cabelas deal is awesome) get a Airmar P66 transducer directly from Airmar. Tomictime on the Salty Dogs board has one on his and it is so much better than the Lowrance product. I think Airmar acutally makes the Lowrance transducer but it's half the quality. They are priced about the same.

Humminbird all the way for me. Easy to use, relatively inexpensive for the 900 series or the new 797 (side imaging capabilities). These are pleanty for the type of area you're talking about. Grew up there for a short period of time (3 years) and am familiar with the terrain. Even $1000 is more than enough to spend in this region. Great fishing especially for walleyes and silvers. Lots of fun too.

Furuno.
Did the Lowrance thing. Now I use a Lowrance gps.ff combo for navigation/backup to the main unit.
You get what you pay for. Anyone who compares a 500 dollar ff with a 1500 dollar ff has no experience with both units....is a liar...or a salesman.

Furuno.......I think it's a 585.To be honest, I don't lnow the name of the thing. It shows stuff the old Lowrance x18 missed. It shows fish....very well.
FWIW, the 585 is only a ff. We have a 337 as a ff backup, and it aslo serves as our gps. After sending the old unit back to Lowrance, I was leary of being short of electronics during season.
To put it in perspective, I would not (Heck I did not) have replaced the old Lowrance (x18 I think) with a new one. I would buy another Furuno
