I'm thinking seriously of getting one of these for my FF. The Gold+ chip for the West Coast looks like it should show the Sea of Cortez but I'm not ready to plunk down the bucks if it really doesn't. Does anyone out there have one of these and does it indeed give Cortez information? (I fish from LA Bay on down)
Thanks,
DB

from what it shows, you must buy the central american water chart (chip).

Thanks cptdarel,
I went into the Albany Joe's yesterday and the sporting goods guy put the navionics west coast chip into a gps and we played with it for a little while. Turns out that, inspite of the navionics literature showing that chip going all the way to Baja, there wasn't any coverage in it south of San Diego. I thought that was kind of misleading since the nav brochure specifically said it covered all the way to Cabo San Lucas. He (the Joe's guy) had a less expensive chip that actually did have some Sea of Cortez coverage but it was pretty much just depth readings. Maybe the Mexican version of Noaa doesn't chart things with as much detail.

Anyplace that sells the chip and has the FF should be able to put the chip in a unit that is powered up at the store and show you just how much the chip shows the area your looking for. My local sporting good store is always happy to do this for you. So should yours
you might look at Nauticpath. Similar charting, in some cases better details such as Garibaldi. It is much better than the Navionics that I had in my other unit. Not sure what it covers in the area that you are looking for. Later today I will look for you

...just checked, the Nauticpath it had charts all the way down to Santiago, including the Golf Of Mexico. Looking at the charts, lots of humps and bumps on the ocean floor, looks like great spots to fish.
