I fished an Oregon coastal tributary known for its native steelhead this morning.
I nymphed a Cerise Lifter and then a Black ESL with no results. I then tried swinging the Black ESL; still no action. Finally I switched to a large black Wooly Bugger. I didn't fish that fly very long before I hooked a steelhead, a large male native.

He measured 37 ½ inches long. He’ll be a hard fish to beat.

You are getting to like that spey rod, aren't you Andy? Great job! Yes, 37 1/2 inches will be hard to beat. But, it ain't over until the fat lady sings, or something like that. :jester: I am energized now. I hope you are there to take the picture.:)

I thought you were going to avoid spey rods? Either way that is one big fish! I am just waiting for the summer steel to start showing...I've had enough with these stupid winter fish! ;)
