What do the fine people of Ifish pay for boat insurance. I'm looking for what the rates are for coverage on a boat similar to an 19' Alumaweld Stryker Sportjet, full coverage not just liability. My rate just went to $46 a month and that seems to be a little high.
Thanks for your help

Get a quote from Progressive. My is also a 100% replacement value for the boat, motors, electronics and some of the fishing gear for less than $300/year. I have State Farm on House & cars, but they aren't even on the same planet for boat insurance pricing.
USAA has great rates too, but they will have Progressive underwrite the policy if over a certain dollar amount ($50K I think). :twocents:

Go with Progressive, they specialize in boat and RV insurance. I pay ~$400 per year for dirft boat and 2007 20ft Weldcraft Maverick. Includes full replacement, liability, medical to others (both important if you have other people in your boat). They also cover toxic spill (gas, oil) cleanup, and towing/roadside assist.
No, I don't work for them.

For those with Progressive Insurance policies, have you ever made a claim? How were they to work with? I've not used them so just hoping to get others opinions/experiences. Low policy price is only half the equation.

I don`t know about boats, but I was in the autobody trade for over 25 years and the people that I still know have signs in there shops that say "IF YOU HAVE PROGRESSIVE INSURANCE EXPECT TO PAY OUT OF YOUR POCKET FOR WHAT THEY WON`T PAY"!

WELLLLLL if they handle their boat claims like they do auto claims, GOOD LUCK, I work with all insurance companys when it comes to auto loss, progressive is one of the worst to deal with, young inexperenced adjusters in fear of their jobs. I invite you to get on the phone and call a few well known reputable body shops and ask them what they think about Progressive. we have come to the point of not repairing their cars, just my 40 years in the auto body trade.

If you plan on fishing offshore.... make sure that your policy covers that and also see how far out and where. You would be surprised at how many boats are out on the ocean that have no insurance that covers coastal waters.

For a few bucks extra stick with whomever handles your house and cars, there might be a case when you have overlapping coverage, especially towing or on thefts. State Farm insures my NW Jet , full coverage, med theft etc. for $270 a year , thats about the price of a tank of gas for me....Jack....And I have had a claim that was handled well...

I had a total loss claim on my 2005 superVee two years ago. The progressive adjuster was at my house with in 2-3 days. I would have accepted a repair but the adjuster talked me out of it. After paying 13 grand for a brand new hull, they only raised my rates $20 per year. I HIGHLY recomend proggressive, Ive never had a better experience with any other insurance company.
