I have on 07 ThunderJet Luxor and the modifications have just begun.
I bought myself a nice little Motion Marine anchor nest and while taking out the boards that would allow me to crawl under my bow I found that the bow area is packed to the gills with foam!
Is there another way to bolt this in or is welding my only option? If the unit is welded from the top will the heat set the foam on fire?
Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Since fire on a boat is a bad thing, i would guess that the foam is not flamable.....but that is just pure speculation. You could always take a chunk of foam out, and try to light it on fire.
I have bolted on 3 anchor nests. If it were my boat, I would tear out some of the foam so I could get a hand/socket in there and bolt the thing on.
This comes with all the regular warnings and precautions.

Even "fire retardant" foam will burn if flame is applied-- it just won't sustain its own flame. You're probably not going to be able to weld it unless you remove the foam that is touching the backside of the metal being welded.

I put a call into ThunderJet and they were very helpful. Said there were two options. Cut an access hole and cut some of the foam out to be able to get a bolt and wrench in there. Second option was to weld it since the foam is apparently fire retardant.
I actually took it to the guys at Motion Marine in West Linn today and they were very helpful and welded it for a reasonable rate. Since I purchased a powder coated model they traded me for a raw version.
The boat is now sitting in the parking lot at my office and has been for the last couple of hours. If something is smoldering I want to make sure it burns in a parking lot instead of next to my house.

Had the same thing done to my Tjet. The MM guys are great, and did a nice job.

If this is polyurethane foam, you don't want any flame or ignition source near it. I used to spray foam in industrial mills and (allegedly) started a severe fire in a mill in Reedsport.:)

Haven't seen any smoldering and it's been 8 hours since the weld job. I'm assuming that I'm past the point where I need to worry about it going up in smoke. I especially hope that since it's in my garage now.
With the first mods I did I cringed when drilling holes into the boat. I've now had high intensity heat on her. What's next?!?!

Scratch, dent, gouge and crack.
Oh, and a partial sinking.(I recommend you leave the transom plug out for that)
