At work today I had a couple come in talking about a new state record Bull Trout caught this weekend from LBC. I would like to know if any one can confirm this. According to them the fish weighed 39 pounds. Seems like a big jump from the current record of 23.2lbs.

I put a call in to the local fish biologist here in Bend to see if they had heard anything from their fish checkers. When he calls back I will let you know

Well so far the fish was not reported at a fish checking station although it was reported to them by another fisherperson that a record had possibly been caught. 39 lbs sounds a little far fetched, maybe they meant 39" which would be more in the 25 lb range?

By the way, that was reported to them on Friday.

I would have to agree that maybe it's 39" I do think that a 30 pound Bull Trout is possible from LBC.

Wouldn't that be fun!!!!! Like you I think there could be one at 30lbs but that would be the line more than likely.

That would be a pretty big jump for sure! I do know that ODFW electroshocked a 36 pound rainbow up at Klamath Lake about 20 years ago, but I've never heard of a Bull Trout anywhere close to that in LBC.
Then again, I've seen pictures of Bulls from Flathead Lake and BC that looked to be much larger than 25 pounds. There's also an interpretative display on the Upper Deschutes above Bend that talks about 30 pound Bull Trout that they used to catch on the Upper D back in the day. Would have been something to see!

I was hoping that there might had been a little truth to the rumor about a new state record Bull Trout, but after a week I am sure it was just a rumor. Unless its like our state record Brown Trout. They may have to weigh it several times before its heavy enough.:laugh::laugh:

Jimmy you are probably right. I know a little about our state record brown trout. Also there is an interesting story about a new record lgmouth bass in CA. They have a while to submit, they can use digital photos of the scale and weighing. In Oregon it must be weighed on a USDC certified scale (meat dept at grocery store) and witnessed.

No pics or newspaper records that I have seen in Redmond or Bend yet.
