I am planning a trip to the Oregon cost this August and would like some recommendations on where to stay. I will be in a RV and would like to be somewhere on the ocean where shore fishing is good; also would like to take a Charter boat out, if any one knows of a good one please let me know.

Thanks for any help

Shawn,

I would go to Barview Jetty. I don't remember the name of the park there but you can find it on this link:

I have never been skunked off that jetty fishing from the shore. In addition you can rent a boat and go crabbing in Tillimook bay, try Crab Harbor.

There are also guides available to take you out for Salmon or bottomfish out of Garabaldi.

I hope this helps,

South Jetty State Park south of Newport is also a good place to stay and offers many activities similar to the ones mentioned by Mr. Fisherman at Tillamook.

You have access to fishing off the south jetty at Newport, can rent a boat to crab in the bay, and there are numerous charter boats that operate out of Newport.

If the family doesn't all fish there is also the Hatfield Marine Science Center to keep them occupied or maybe you'll want to go yourself just to seem some fish if the fishing is bad.

MR Fisherman - that would be Barview county park. Use to be one of my favorite places to stay at the beach. Great beach access, nice jetty to fish, great area. The new management for the park is really screwed up and way out of control in my opinion. They got park employees packing guns, issuing tickets. The guy who cleans the garbage cans in the morning is shooting radar and issuing tickets to speeders in the park in the afternoon. We were camped there last summer and had reservations, they came to us and told us we had to leave on the 3rd of the 4 day trip we were staying, because they screwed up and double booked the same site. We had 4 tents set up and all the stuff spread out to stay for 4 days for 4 families. Needless to say they ended getting the cops there before it was over and we didnt have to leave. I told the lady last time I was there I would not be back until she was not employed there anymore. I cannot imagine she is still employed, but I wont stay there until I know she has been fired. A few months ago my dad got a parking ticket because he was visiting some friends who were staying there. The ticket was for having more than one vehicle in a single vehicle site. No where did it say you cannot visit and if you do visit, they have no parking for you. He took it to court and it got thrown out.

Beautiful park, great location, poor management. I hope they get a copy of this. I will do all I can to keep people away from this park. The trouble is it is so popular the place fills up every weekend.

nehalem bay has a great park with yurts and a lot of spaces i dont think you can get a reservation as it is first come first served, salmon, clams ,crabs, rain, wind, ocean beach, logs in the surf,-- to roll over your kids,
