I heard they closed the ramp at Gobel. Evidently the hole at the bottom of the ramp tore off two trailer axles this week. I had a hard time Last Friday getting out at low tide. I need an alternative. I'm fishing sandy island. St. Helens is a long boat ride.
My charts show a ramp in Rainer. Does anybody know its condition and wether they have parking and/or fees. I open to any other ramps anyone might know off. images/icons/frown.gif

There is a ramp in Rainier. The ramp is ok the dock facilities won't fit more than 2 boats. The launch parking is 2$, regular parking is free. when you hit the stoplight make a right and go right again at the bottom of the hill. launch is on the left.

Or you could just follow the signs....

Good luck

Kalama Is just accross the river from Gobel and the closest by far. Nice ramp, donations or free if you choose.

Thanks slutgoddess, Do I need a Washington fishing license to take out, or should I say to return with fish. I'm licensed and boat registered in Oregon. images/icons/smile.gif

Rickh75,

Thanks for the info. I'll be using Rainer or Kalama. I havn't decided yet. I'm waiting to see if I need any license to launch from WA side. Kalama is a little more drive time , but a lot less than the 6 mile boat trip upriver to sandy island.

Oregon or Washington residents may launch in either state as long as they are licensed by their own state. Be careful where you go ashore to angle though. You may be on a Washington Island and would therefore need a Washington license. As long as you are in a floating boat you only need to be licensed by one state. Where you launch is of no consequence.

The columbia river is a cooperative fishing zone either license is adequate regardless of where you fish or launch as long as it is in the columbia and not in a tributary.

COLUMBIA RIVER - where the river coincides with the boundary between Washington and Oregon, the license of either state is
valid. Anglers must comply with the laws of the state in which they are fishing. An angler licensed only in Oregon may not fish on the
Washington shore or in Washington sloughs or tributaries. An angler fishing the Columbia River is restricted to one daily limit even if licensed
by both states. Anglers may fish with either a saltwater, freshwater, or combination license in the waters of the Columbia River between
a line from Rocky Point on the Washington shore to Tongue Point on the Oregon shore and the Buoy10 line described below. For STURGEON
rules in the Columbia River tributaries, see rules for adjoining mainstem waters.

Anymore questions about the Columbia river rules? that is on page 103 of the Regs. for wasington. it is also on page 78 in the Oregon regs. I didn't want anyone to feel left out so I'm going to put the exact wording for Oregon on here also.

1. In the Columbia River where it forms the state boundary line, not including tributaries, sloughs and lands, the following rules
apply:
a. License and tags of either state are valid except when the other state’s season is closed;
b. Anglers must follow the rules of the state in which they are fishing;
c. Anglers are restricted to one daily catch and one annual sturgeon catch limit from the Columbia River, even if licensed
in Oregon and Washington;
d. Anglers that are residents of either Oregon or Washington may launch or take out their boats from either shore, regard-less
of which state license they hold;
e. Anglers that are not a resident of either Oregon or Washington must possess a nonresident license for the state in
which they are landing.
2. When fishing on tributaries, sloughs or from the land of a state, the angler must be licensed by that state and obey all
angling regulations of that state.

Watch out on that rainier ramp. A friend of mine just had his boat beat up BAD. My friend and another guy were both pulling there boats out of the water. The other guys was a nice alumiweld and my friends was a fiberglass boat. Both of them get their boats near there trailers. Just like before you go to wench them on. And this ship goss by. Then come the waves. The waves pull both of their boats OFF the trailers and the water gose so far back that you can see dirt. then a HUGE wave comes in and tosses both of there boats at them. The boats run into eachother and then are both thrown into their trailers. My friends boat is torn up pretty bad. He trailer didnt survive very well. It bent the toung and just about tore the fender off. Not pretty. The buy in the alumiweld. His boat didnt end up near his trailer. It ended up towards the end of the ramp with the lower unit in the mud. he had to dig for about 10 minuets. Not pretty. On top of that another friend of mine and his dad were fishing off goat island near goble. Their boat was anchored about 10 feet or so off shore while ther were fishing off the back the boats bow was facing up stream. A ship gose by. the waves start breaking right before they got to the boat. They flip the boat over. Bran new motor. Full of sand. Lots of digging to get it out.. Also not very pretty images/icons/shocked.gif
