Has anybody been backtrolling divers and bait on the Columbia, or is everybody forward trolling or anchor fishing?
A little voice in my head is telling me to backtroll prawns with spin & glo's.

Hey Wheresmy, Good thought. On a strong ebb it might just be the ticket. Might have to run another experimental trip. Toss those traditional methods aside for a day and improvise. It's hard to do when all those others are anchored up and smacking one after the other. I've been thinking about spin-glo, eggs and a small chunk of sardine. Very effective in other places I've fished. Good fishin!

I am thinking about sliding a spin-glo shrimp combo down my line above a K-fish. I am going out around Kalama this afternoon, I'll let you know how it goes.

Hey cootie,
You make it back okay? I picked up my bags late late and made it back around 1:30 am. Still trying to unpack. 9 is too early for classes and work. Funny, I can get 3 hours of sleep and have no problem going fishing in the morning, but school.....ugh! I'm gonna have to scan those pictures of all our big Maui fish and post them! images/icons/wink.gif Well see about springers this weekend. You know I'm itching to fish for something with (or hopefully without) an adipose fin. Still the mrs. is a bit "possessive" right now. Aloha!

WMB,
I just got back in town from my break and am catching up with the board. But, before i left, i hooked two salmon backtrolling on the columbia. The current was strong where i wanted to fish so i just backtrolled the slot with four ounces of lead and going out a number of pulls. the first fish i missed because i was staring off in space but the second i stuck on the very next pass. It was about an eighteen pounder but of course, it had an adispose fin so back it went into the water. ah well, now that i am back in town i have to get back into the swing of things and figure out where the fish are now....just my thoughts and experiences on backtrolling the columbia.
