View Full Version : Umpqua Sturgeon?
drifty if you launch at the public ramp above the 101 bridge either run up river to the power lines that cross the river or run down to the first corner below the bridge both spots are producing.as far as bait hey if you have smelt I'd bring em herring and sandshrimp/ mud shrimp are probably the most used bait.think big as far as gear the umpqua has some serious gators in it. Yo drifty,
My dad nailed one on the Umpqua sunday. It was 56 inches. From what he said the fishing is really picking up. The bay is also full crabs, So bring lots of bait. I gues the sturg my dad got was completey stuffed with crabs. It was both puking and crapping them out when he landed it. Too bad you cant use crab for bait??
Good luck if ya head down. If you see 2 guys in a white North River tell them HI!

I was wondering if anyone out there has fished for sturgeon on the umpqua? I'm going to be down there this weekend and thought I would give it a try. I'm just looking for general areas to go and bait to try.

RJ,
I didnt get into the good striper fishing. I was a little young back when that was the place. My dad wasnt into trying that stuff.
Ive only targeted stripers about 3 times. 2 out of the 3 trips paid off.
Ive been hearing some good reports of stripers coming out of the Coquille. Im starting to think thats going to be the next hot spot for stipers.

willierower,
The report is summed up in one word SKUNKED!We tried mud shrimp and smelt without a bite.I guess that is just the way it goes sometimes. I didn't see a white north river down there. Were they down there on saturday? and if they were did they do any good?

Drifty,
They didnt fish the Umpqua on Saturday, They stayed closer to home and fished the Coquille. The hit a big skunk there too. But sunday was a different story. Mydad didnt make it sun. His freind did though. They went 3 for 5 with 2 being keepers. The other one landed was 61inches. They are fishing just down from the old I.P. mill.
I guess Im going to have to get down there and get in on that fishing.
