I have an 04 Alumaweld 15'7", Stevens Marine says it needs a new sensor back at the tank, another guy I was talking to says he replaces them all the time, He also says because the gas tank is only about 5" high, any side ways movement in the boat while in water makes the gauge go back and forth as much as 1/2 a tank, Has anyone just installed a clear piece of glass back there to look down and physically see how much gas you have?

tempered glass or something might be better, although its not in a place where a person could stand on it and break it, just installing an old fashioned gravity/float guage is also something I might do

Have you thought of adding a fuel flow meter?

I like the idea of having a fuel flow meter in addition to the gas gauge.

hello, an electronic fuel level sensor is a good replacement. you can set the low and high limits. as there are no moving parts they last much longer and are somewhat dampened.
don't under any circumstances install any glass tubes or visual level indicator that would be very dangerous.

Fuel flow meter will be my advice if you really are concerned about the amount of fuel you really have. I fall in that catagory. The traditional guages and even the new and improved ones are really nothing more than sticking your wet finger in the wind to to get a feel for where the breeze is coming from. There are a couple that are really cheap and after an easy install and a minor calibration, will be the answer to what your looking for.
