Looking for a decent fish finder in the 200-300$ range. Brand is not important but have been looking at the hummingbirds. The Features I want are speed and temp as well as good backlighting and a sharp display. Thanks for any reccomendations, good bad experiences.

Whatever brand you get.......PIXELS man PIXELS! I couldn't believe the difference between 320X320 and 480X480, I also got the color model, it was a Lowrance X-102c. I was able to see springers on the screen, then turn around and see my rod burry. The only prob is, the comparable unit now from Lowrance is $499.00, and I don't believe that a $200.00-$300.00 unit, even in color, will do what the unit with the higher pixel count will.
Good Luck!

Hello S.Ben: I am using my second Humminbird FF, a Matrix 37 black and white, and can highly recommed that you try to go with a color unit. The difference is enormous. I am currently shopping for a new color unit and will get rid of my slightly used but discontinued Matrix. I think the step up to a Humminbird color unit will cost you an additional $50 to $100 but it really is worth the added cost. I do like the removable feature of the Humminbird units as compared with other brands. Good luck. EH

Dont cheap out on your FF. I bought a black/white Garmin combo and wish I would have paid the extra for the color screen. Dont get me wrong, I can still graph any fish (springers included), just wish I would have got the color screen.

Hey Steelie Ben, Cabelas has a Lowrance X-96 in their bargain cave for $149.00. That is a good price for a 320x320 although it is B&W.
