Older Johnson S# ?

A buddy of mine has a boat with 1990 johnson 225 on it. I guess the insurance company needs the serial numbers off of it to insure it. Problem is those older motors had those plastic tags that were prone to falling off. Anyone know if there is another way to cross reference some other numbers to get the serial number?

Mine had a metal plate on the right side of the shaft.
