Anybody know where i could go do some bank fishing and have a good chance of catching a big fish in the river (Columbia)? i used to fish out near Goat Island or Shell beach but havent been down there in years, is anybody doing any good from the bank yet? What to use? Also are there any fish in Big Creek this time of year? Thanks for the info

Hi Jeremy,
I fished Dibley (sp) beach all day on Sat. I spent about 9 hours out there and saw 6 fish caught 2 steelhead and 4 springers to the beach (one lucky ******* limited out with two NICE springers) and lots of missed take downs (they seem to hit while you're up at the trees draining the morning coffee:rolleyes images/icons/smile.gif. I could see about 50 poles from where I was.
Everyone I saw was using spin-glows. Color didn't matter much. The guy who got the two fish got one on a flame red and another on a black spin-glow (one tip: He was spraying his spin-glows down with WD-40 images/icons/grin.gif). Go figure.
My email isn't working right now, but I'll respond to any questions that you post.

Dibley (sp) beach is out past Rainier (if you're coming from St. Helens). Right before the bridge there is a stop light. Turn right and drive down to the stop sign and turn left. You'll drive past a wood mill (I forget the name of it) and you'll see a sand road on your right. You'll also see signs saying that access is restricted, but thats only for motorbikes and ATVs. Its kind of confusing back along the sand road, but just head for the river. Also, it looks like the road ends at a fence but if you drive up on it you'll see another road that goes to your left.
I use 17# main line and I normally rig up two spin-glows. I was using 6oz triangle weight and it kept me on the bottom just fine. I saw guys using really small tear drop weight and they didn't seem to be giving them too much trouble but I would hate to drift into the guy next to me (its pretty crowded on the beach).
You'll want to fish the outgoing tide because you need the current to spin your spin-glows. In the Longview area, high tide is at 3:00AM this Sat. images/icons/shocked.gif but it lasts for about 8 hours so fishing should be good until about 11:00 or 12:00. Sun. its at 4:30AM, so fishing should stay good until close to 1:00PM.
Good luck, and bring your rain gear! images/icons/cool.gif

Don't overlook Prescott beach park. Lots of fish have come off that beach. Get there early if you want to fish the weekends. You don't have to cast very far off the beach to be in the big silvery fish zone. Also do a search on "plunking" for a thread I started a couple of months back w/techs on how to fish salmon/steelhead on the beach. Don't forget your sand spike and bell.
