I have a2005 Mercury 9.9 and I've checked the water coming out of the motor many times, after trolling for hourers! and the water is always cold!
is there something wrong with my motor? or do you have to do something to the motor to make the water hot for one of this hot water boxes?

Is it a 4 stroke? If so you will probably have the same problem I do with my T8 I have luke warm water at best in colder tempretures and I never really gets hot. I dont know if you can change thermastats to help or not.

You need to tap the hot side of the cooling system. For the T8 there is a bolt you can remove and PPM sells a replacement bolt that is already tapped with a fitting for a hose that will get you hot water. After running the engine for a while it will be as hot as hot water in your house.

Yes it's a 4 Stroke, Even when I use the motor at higher speed the water is stone cold! not even luke warm?

You need to do what water dog said, the tell tale will always be water temp.

Ok Boat Doc, now I'm really confused because my thermostat housing was tapped and the water to the hotbox rigged when I bought the boat at Stevens in Tigard and in cool/cold weather it never gets very hot. It will get warm but it dont get hot.

Correct operation would be to allow the motor to warm up with the valve closed. Once it's warmed up open the valve to fill the tub then close it to where it just trickles or shut it off completely and open as needed. The temp you feel out of the hose to the box is the temp the engine is running. If it runs with the valve fully open the engine will get condensation in the oil and will likely idle poorly. Be careful because if it is operated correctly you can burn your hands as the motor can run around 130 degrees.
