I'm doing some pre-season maintenance today and decided to replace the water pump in my Mercruiser. Long story short, I'm stupid and the cavitation plate is missing a chunk out of the side. Is this going to affect performance a little, or a lot?

I doubt if you'll notice any difference but if so, you could try adding a doel-fin or hydrofoil stabilizer.

A prop repair shop might be able to weld that up and repair it. Just a thought. A smaller hammer might work better next time.

Shouldn't make too much difference ... Stick to prybars and wigglin next time around... And don't forget that pesky bolt under your zinc...If you need to preform blunt force trama, use a rubber mallet :smirk:

I'd take it in and have it welded up. I would guess that anyone who does "skeg repair" could tackle that one no problem.

A little welding, little grinding, little paint and no one will know what you did...
