I am installing a gps antenna on a 19ft North River boat with a windsheild and am considering mounting the antenna on the gunnel by the driver's side window. Just looking for some feedback from others who have mounted one in that location and maybe some ideas on other good locations. I want to get good reception and I don't want to tear it off with the anchor rope when using the boat to pull anchor. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

My last two boats have had the puck mounted on the front structure just below the driver windshield with no problems (the top of it sticks up just above the bottom of the glass). I would just make sure that it forward of your windshield and that there is nothing to obstruct it.

That's where mine is! Out in the ocean I get about 9-15ft possible error.. Good enough for me!

Never had a problem with reception.

For those of you who have models with an internal antenna, how is your reception when the GPS is located where Nemos head unit is?

Smackdown,

I have a 17' 6" North River and the folks who mounted my GPS antenna put it on the passenger side a couple inches below the bottom corner of the windshield. It gets fine reception there. However, I think your idea may be better. When I decided to install a VHF radio, I didn't want the radio antenna too close to the GPS one, so I mounted the radio antenna on the driver's side. Now that gets me close to the antenna when transmitting, which I have come to find out is not a real good idea. If I were doing it again (with what I know now) I'd put the GPS antenna on the driver side and move the radio antenna over to the passenger's. I still may eventually make that swap.

For what it's worth,

ISF, very clean, is that bracket homemade, or can I purchase one for myself?
