I don't think it is going to work, nor will your positive ion control work anymore either. You need the metal cable to be able to induce a voltage down the cable. The auto stop works by the same principle, a voltage is sent down the cable, into the water and back to your boat, making a circuit. When the weight or isolater clip clears the surface the circuit is broken and the downrigger shuts off. With braid you won't be able to have a circuit.

Fishty~ why the thumbs down if your not sure if it works or not?
Fishinmike~ If that were the case why will my auto shut-off work in my driveway. Not arguing just curious.
I called Englunds and asked if they had heard of any problems. They said none what so ever. They can't even sell the wire anymore. I asked him if he personally have used them with the spectra, he said no but will ask someone who has. I'm going to call him back in a week and see what he found out.

You got me Bendman, I have no idea why you auto shutoff works in your driveway. If its in your driveway, hows it know where its supposed to stop?

Maybe mines different than others. I have Scotty's with 60'' booms. I think their 60ll'S. It has a little yellow in line clip that you put on the wire where you want it to stop. It passes through a little sensor at the end of the boom and then stops. I have mine set so the ball is about 2' under the water because I use 20# balls and don't like those things banging into the side of my boat in the swells.

Ahh, there's the differnce. I was responding to fishty and he said he had Cannons. Cannons use the electrical circut for shutoff. Scottys use the clips.

sorry about the thumbs down!!! guess I'm Blind!!! thought it looked like a question mark! but now that I look at it better it is a thunbs down OOOOPPPPSSSS!
I just don't think it will work cause like FishnMike said, I think the metal cable has something to do with the auto stop!

Oh right you are FishnMike. I used the braid on my new Cannon mag5HS and not only did the auto stop not work, the on control needed to be kept pushed up with a finger or knee or it would shut off automatically. I understand the auto stop not working but the up switch is odd.
I will be putting the steel cable back on that one. Operationa and catch rate for the 3 year old mini-mag electric appears to be the same with the braid so that one will remain on at least for now.
Sorry no one knew to tell you before you put braided line on your Cannon.
The SS line is critical for the auto-stop to work. Your minimag works because it doesn't have the auto-stop or the electonics that control it.
Those new Cannon Electrics look sweet, I may have to sell my Scottys and change over.
