I am new to this area; and would like any tips or suggestions about fishing along the Oregon and Washington coast. I will most likely be fishing from jetties or surf fishing and would like to know what kinds of fish are common in these situations and what will catch them. I have done plenty of surf fishing along the east coast from Maryland south to North Carolina, but would really like to know more about fishing over here.

Thanks for any help

Well I'll take a stab at this one. First of all I'd do a search in the archives on the words "jetty", "surf", "perch", maybe "ling".

And see what you come up with. I know there's been some info posted here in the past on these fisheries. As far as what to expect. Rock bass, greenling, cabezon, surf and pile perch, maybe a ling cod, are going to be the most common fish you'll catch. Bait selection is pretty simple. Sand shrimp, clam necks, whole or peices of herring will work too. Ocassionally you might pick up a salmon off of the jetty.

Good Luck

Aaron

Oh yeh, no stripers (except extreme southern bays) or bluefish here.
