Greetings All,
I'm going to be mounting a couple of Cannon Lake trolls on my new Klamath Aluminum (15). I was wondering opinions on locations to mount. I understand how far back but I'm mainly concerned with gunwale clamping or screwing them into the benches(they are vynil covered wood). I'm concerned with screwing them in as 1. its into wood(may pull out) I'd bolt in but there is no access to the underneath side of the bench. 2. are gunwale clamps really secure enough? Any input you all have is much appreciated!!!

I used to run a Walker big laker downrigger on a gunwale clamp on a Starcraft 14 footer. I put a block of wood against the gunwale and clamped to both to solidify the mount set up. I ran that for years before I got a bigger boat. Didnt have to drill any holes in the boat that way.

fish-on,
Thanks for getting back to me on that, no probs huh? Lord knows I've drilled enough holes for now. Think that'll be the way I go. I probably won't be running more that a 5-6lb ball at 70ft. max.

I through bolted mine on the back deck. I also ordered the longer booms that come on the MINI MAG downrigger. Same diameter, just 6 in longer. They run about 10$ each if you call cannon. 1-800-227-6433.
