First, nice meeting you on the boat ramp
OSPREY!

After a no springer bites and very windy day in the channel for just about everyone, put some smelt on the bottom to catch something!

Nothing. Said what the heck, put a herring on the bottom, since they were going to be no good at the end of the day. She zam! 50 inch keeper that fought and ran like a Sammie!

Don't throw away your herring! Keep them
for "something different" Sturgeon bait. I
know the transit estuary fish love them and
used them with success before as well.

******,

You did the classic "match the hatch" thang! Makes perfect sense to me. All those folks salmon fishing, think how many 100's of herring make it to the bottom of the Mult. Channel on a typical day during salmon season.

Congrats on the fish!

'Nook,
My boat is "Osprey", my moniker is "Pete". Nice meeting you, too!

I had one takedown, but nothing to the boat. I saw about a dozen fish, two of them fin clipped. One of the clipped fish had to be at least 40! The guy was on his own and got it up to his swim platform, but couldn't lift it into the boat. He tied it off and dragged it around! I also saw one nate hooked, netted, boated, then released - belly up and bleeding.

Hey Pete! Osprey lives in Washington. I
knew that. You bet. See you on the river.

Question for Pete:
Did you fish the Willamette channel today (Thursday)?? I saw a boat today, there, that said "Osprey" in gold lettering with a picture of an osprey. Was that you? Tell me what brand of boat you have if it was you, and I'll give you our fishing report!!! images/icons/grin.gif

No fair, Oakie. You it wasn't me, so I won't tell you what brand of boat I have, then you don't have to give me a report, OK? images/icons/tongue.gif
Actually, I took Thursday off after doing the channel on Monday and Wednesday and the Nehalem on Tuesday. I'll be back in the channel on Friday in my green Alumaweld with grey lettering.

Weeeel, I just didnt know why someone would admit being somewhere without some incentive...lol. Soooo, actually the report is interesting in that we did get one springer, about 20# hatchery to keep! Used a plug cut herring AND a spinner blade above that. Didnt see or hear of any others but one caught, but then we left around 10:30am and went to Bonneville! images/icons/grin.gif
