I guess i'm gonna start by thanking the board for being what it is, a great resource. It all started with the thread about transom supports. After reading I went out to give a looksee. I simulated the bumps in the road to see if I could use the support. Whoa! That's not right, looks a little weak. This is when things got ugly, I got rot! I have an 1" of mulch holding the motor up. Spent all day doing boat surgury, good news is I found solid wood and will be able to fix it. Just couldn't have come at a worse time, I'm ready to go get bit! I am sure glad I found this problem in the driveway and not out on the road or water.

Good obervation skills and a fair dose of luck can go a long way. Hope your repair is not too spendy. I once discovered a loose axle nut pulling out of my garage. Thing was it wouldn't come out of the narrow garage door as the wheel was coming off the trailer axle at an extreme angle. images/icons/shocked.gif It's a wonder it didn't come off on my previous trip to the coast.

Hey Phunybonz - glad my post helped you out! Maybe someday I'll even get rated??? images/icons/cool.gif After reading the replys to my transom saver post I went and bought one and installed it yesterday - it's really slick. The only place that had one to fit my boat and trailer setup was Stevens marine. I need a real long one with a bend in it because my last crossbar on my trailer is about 18" forward of the transom of my boat. I used it today on my trip from Portland to Astoria and back and it worked like a charm. If you need the same type I have, I saw that Cabelas has them in their catalog for $39.99. The one at Stevens Marine for $10 more is really sturdy and simple to use though. I found the short straight type at Fishermans at Delta Park - they had about 3 different kinds ranging in price from $29-$45. Good luck with your transom repair - see my post re: best day of Springer fishing ever - they're coming!!!

I had a good scare with the trailer hitch bouncing off the ball doing 55mph. A simple bolt throught the hitch lock would have prevented it. Fishing was still excellent when we got there....but it was close call. If anybody was coming the other direction it would have been a very bad day.
