If you are interested in how many Springers are coming over the dams: www.cqs.washington.edu/dart/dart.html (http://www.cqs.washington.edu/dart/dart.html) www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/fishdata/fishpass.htm (http://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/fishdata/fishpass.htm)
The dart site is usually kept up better. HERE THEY COME!!! images/icons/grin.gif HERE THEY COME!!!

Fear, why do you say Dart is kept up better? They report what the Army reports. The warning on the Army site says "the Corps of Engineers makes no warranties concerning the accuracy, reliability, or suitability of this data for any particular purpose."
The Fish Passage Center http://www.fpc.org/Index.htm, which also gets the raw data from the Army, actively manages the data to ensure that it is reliable, accurate and suitable for managing both hydroelectric production and fish passage.

The Dart site reports in a more timely manner. Many times the fish passage center is slow to post counts, whereas it was on the Dart site faster. Also many times the fish passage center just shows zeroes at a lot of the Dams. images/icons/rolleyes.gif
I think if you check, DART shows zeros just as often because the Army Corps of Engineers regularly fails to report. As for reporting in a more timely manner, both sites report the same data at the same time. Later this season the FPC will have a supplementary page showing real time data, live from the finger tips of the fish counters. Hard to get more timely than that.

Pete,
You must work for the fpc huh? The reason I feel the way I do about the dart site was it would tell me what the count was for the steelhead on the Snake this last season when the fpc
didn't. Specifically for counts over Lower Monumental Dam. Not only that but the Dart site was showing this years spring chinook count a month before the fpc was!
I'll be at the Wind River for the next 3 weeks, starting Thursday. Stop on over I'll buy ya a beer. You can count all the nookie I'll be getting!
Fear, I don't work for the FPC, but I know several folks in the fish and power business. The FPC did report the early year chinook numbers, but in a different place. As they explained, they need to keep the official count consistent from year to year.
Good luck on the Wind. I may try to take you up on the beer, but I think I'll finish filling my tag here in Portland first. images/icons/wink.gif

Pete, what do you mean "they need to keep the official count consistant from year to year"? The word "consistant" has me a bit confused. Aren't the runs different from year to year? Is it an actual count, or sort of doctored count for political/generating reasons?

FEAR! Let's start camping on "our" spot now!You put out the "gimme a boat width" signs and I'll put out the "we ain't shad fishing" don't anchor below us" signs! How's that new trailer? You bumper boatin' the Wind eh? If you see McGilvery or Ford, tell them to "git outta heyur" for me. At least the front of your boat drops down like a Navy "mike" boat to deploy the amphib equipment. images/icons/grin.gif images/icons/grin.gif

I enjoy the DART for the main reason of I'm able to look over runs of earlier years and then make a projection of the coming year. Tim Mckinly who is a bioligist up in Soldotna gave me a few pointers on how to make these predictions. Works great for them on the Kenai.
I agree, the historic data is really useful. Have you looked at the FPC historic data? http://www.fpc.org/adult_history/YTD-BON.htm
Starr,
The Corps of Engineers fish counters don't necessarily count the same way each year. The Corps may start their count on different dates, sometimes they have included wild steelhead, sometimes not. What I mean by "consistent" is that the numbers reported mean the same thing from year to year. Part of the mission of the FPC is to provide data that helps fish managers and hydro operators make decisions about spill volume and timing. There's a lot more about how and why they do their thing on their site.
