I am sure that in some post it would tell me how to do this but I have not been able to find it.
What is the best way to troll hearing? Last week I used a 3oz flat with swivels. Then a rig of hearing? I made sure that the hearing was rolling 1 rev about every 1-2 seconds. Is this the correct way?
God I hate second guessing myself. images/icons/rolleyes.gif

Rickh75 - and others,
Do you run a second hook, and if so do you place it near the tail or do you use it as a trailer? I've done it both was, although I like putting it into the tail :D (let's not go there!), as you can draw up the slack through the first hook thats in the plug cut and adjust the herring's rate of rotation. Any thoughts as whats most effective???

If you caught fish, you did it right, if not, then you might change something. images/icons/rolleyes.gif

how does your herring spin?

In the willamette I would run a spreader to however much weight you need to keep it down with your line at approx 45 degree angle to the boat, 3-6 oz will probably be sufficient. The sinkers that I have seen mostly used are the bank type or the cannon ball type sinker.

For the herring roll most folks will say get a commercial plug cutter like a gillys or something like that. Since herring have been kinda hard to find as of late I would use red, blue or yellow label. For the roll some guys like sliding leaders some dont some like plug cut some like whole. My preference is to get the properly tied (for size herring)solid hooks and use plug cut. I dont use a cutter but I know they work well. You want the roll to be around 1-1.5 revs per sec. Use a high quality swivels and bead chain to avoid getting wound up, and if you like to use a dodger throw one of those on there. I'm surethat someone else has a different point of view or a special tech. but thats kinda how I do it when I fish herring
