"DOES SIZE REALLY MATTER ??" http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/confused.gif Apparently it does!! http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Recently with low water conditions I have scaled down the size of my gear (corkies,hooks,etc..). I always have used 1/0 hooks and very rarely fish spit the hook on me. I would say 8 of 10 stay buttoned. I have been fishing #1 and #2 hooks lately and most of them are getting off and I am getting frustrated. It seems like a "catch 22" to me, If I use 1/0 hooks with tiny corkies I hang up , and when I use smaller hooks I keep losing fish. I would like to know if anyone has a solution for this.....Thanks~John

Man FM, I could get in trouble with that Q. So I am going to behave myself http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif ...
I have lost quite a few steelies this low water season; hooked briefly on jigs or pink worms with smaller or lighter weaker hooks. A friend has just come up with a solution for that and it involves stronger more expensive hooks. If you want to use a 1/0 hook buried in an egg cluster or shrimp I don't see that as a problem for low water steelheading if you try using floats instead of driftfishing, or use corkies to give the 1/0's neutral bouancy, to use with the less snaggy slinky sinkers. But in such clear water I assume you are using the real small corkies, so quality size 1 hooks should be plenty to grasp a biter well in most cases (always super sticky sharp of course - and rechecked often!). When the water is up and colored I prefer the bigger 1/0 hooks for steelheading. Many guys, especially the boondoggers up in Washington, continue to use small hooks (even size 2's and 4's) in the faster flowing current. I really think the bigger gap has a better chance of a solid hook-up in those conditions in which the fish don't have as much time to grab the drifting bait or corky/cheater, and can't see it quite as well. ... Hope that helps. - RT

Hey Steve I believe the terminology for that lack of memory is senility. We all have it from time to time. It just happens more often the older you get.... http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif Talk to you soon~ John

John,
Those of us yet to crest the hill refer to it as halfshimers.... It only kicks in half the time.
I've been accused of confusing it with selective hearing. Coincidence? http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/confused.gif
Hmmmm, what were we talking about... http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif
