I just returned from a vacation in California and was lucky enough to hit the Smith river steelhead run during prime time with great water conditions. The guide took us on two fabulouse drifts right through the heart of the redwoods and we boated good numbers of beautiful wild steelhead. It was good to sit in the front of a driftboat for a change.
I have fished a local Tillamook river the last couple of days with good results. The steelhead are officially in and the water conditions have been better than decent on the north coast rivers. There are plenty of broodstock fish in the Wilson and Nestucca and a few stray brooders mixing with the wild fish in the Trask. I am also hearing good reports from the Siletz.
Sidedrifting eggs was the ticket yesterday but the brooders (and a nice chinook) prefered tadpolly's today. Early on this morning, I realized my clients liked the plugs better too, it was cold and damp. I am riding in a new 19 foot Willie drifter that fishes two or three anglers very comfortably. I really am impressed with the way this boat rowes for as big and roomy as it is. Looks like a barge but rowes like a pontoon boat  .
I will soon be able to post pictures on this forum so keep your eyes peeled. I have a couple openings towards the end of this month and a handful next month after the Sportsmans Show. Some dates are still available in march as well. Come on down and get in on the action.
