I thought that it would be fun to discuss different fishing methods which can be applied at local taverns and nightclubs. Although the methods described pertain to a males in search of females, you lady fishers out there can simply reverse the terms to apply to the appropriate gender. Here is a few different methods to get things started.

1) Plunking - Start by with some really good bait, such as a dozen fresh-cut long stem roses. Sit in a likely traveling lane. Migratory babes will have to travel to the bathroom sooner or later so setting up close to the ladies' room is a good place to start. If that doesn't pan out, then sit next to the bar or close to the dance floor. The idea is to get one of the gals to "bite" when they see you sitting there with the roses on the table. Offer them one rose and only one rose because they may give you a long distance release and you'll need the other roses to entice more strikes. http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif

2) Driftfishing - This is more of an agressive alternative to plunking. Your bait of choice will be a Vodka cranberry. You carry your drink of choice in one hand an the Vodka cran in the other. Walk around and offer potential catches the Vodka cran. They will usually take the hook deep with this one and soon you can reel them in or play them out on the dance floor.

3) Hoglining - This is best achieved with several of your single buddies. Find a traveling lane, like the outside the ladies room or next to the dance floor, and make sure that everybody has their favorite bait of choice. It's a good idea to mix it up and have some of your buddies with roses and some with booze. Usually schools of females will be intercepted easily by this method and doubles and triples are not uncommon.

4) Hardware - Best method for attracting gold-diggers. All you need to do is put on the gaudiest gold chain, watch, and rings you can find. Don't forget to flash a few Benjamins when ordering drinks. Some true trophies are taken with this method, but it will cost ya http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif

5) Backbouncing - This is done on the dance floor once you hook up using one of the methods described above. Don't want to offend anybody by being descriptive so I'll leave it up to your imagination. http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Good luck and keep your tip up!!

Hey Sauk, you forgot a few key things to remember.

Always catch and release. Chances are after a few drinks you think you've caught a salmon, but actually have caught a squawfish (oops, sorry, northern pikeminnow). If you quickly release afterwards, no worries about the morning after syndrome.

Most important, you never know what type of "weather" you're gonna run into, so make sure you have good "protection" on you at all times. Bad to have one good day of fishing turn bad over forgetting some key gear. http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hey, I find you sexist pigs discusting. Besides, you forgot a lot of tech that should have been included. Kind of sensative info Justin, so e-mail me for the best 'tech' http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif . I'll leave ya with a sampler though: 'fly fishing'. Not just Super's stylin' either. I'm talking about true sportsmen's challenge. Forget the bait and hardware and thus the 'shallow' catches. Flies are where it's at dude. Put a little Krystalflash on your fly; gets their attention quickly. Use a thick layer of chenile to enhance the appearance of the shank. For the trophies you want to get your fly down. I suggest using 'sink tip' lines. And better quality lines than I heard out of you up in Oly http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif . Getting them to hit dry flies or wet flies takes a lot of finess. You want to throw a little curve in your 'line' (called mending; or where you fish it's called lying). The patterns you should choose depends on whether you are targeting brats or Nates. For the brats use the flashy wets. If you are targeting Nates, then come clean and come out of the closet man! http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif That's enough.

Remember in the Northwest the natives are usually a little bigger that the hatchery raised. Always look for the clipped fin, too large a fin and you might have a huge feed bill on your hands.

Hands down the best technique for gorgeous hens is the pink worm. Not those 4" and 6" the Canadians use. I'm talking about those 8", 12" and 16" popular for largemouths. The bigger the better. When dangling a 16" pink worm on the dance floor, ALL OTHER TECHNIQUES ARE IGNORED. If you've had one too many and can't get the right action on your worm, then a cucumber stuffed down your pocket may still trick her into striking...

Hooked two landed one last night. Had to break out the secret weapon....a "Mike's Special" which is a fruit-juiced version of the Long Island iced tea and I found that making a rose out of a napkin works as well if not better than the real thing. http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Good luck, guys, and pray for rain....we need it baaaaaaad!!!!!

One should never underestimate the importance of a good line. Pay close attention to line strength, and make sure that it's still like-new and not weathered and easily broken.

The rod is also naturally very important. One should not look solely at the length of the pole to decide it's fitness for the job at hand. Instead, also consider the weight, action, rigidity, and overall action. Without the proper rod you could end up hooking into a real beaut' with no way of controlling her. Also, take good care of your rod. Be sure to keep track of the tip, as people have been known to inadvertantly slam them in car doors or snap them off when pulling back on them too hard.

Scents are important as well; however, it is often the topic of hot debate as to which scent to use and how much should be applied. Scents are used to mask the human odor, which can be counterproductive to your fishing attempts.

There aren't any bag limits to this species, as it is seldom that anyone lands more than one per outing anyway. Those who are lucky enough to bag two or more in an outing are looked upon as greedy to those who are not catching any in the same hole, but it is amusing to note that these same people would be thrilled if they were able to experience such luck and will quite possibly pat the lucky fellow on the back after the story is told later on.

Catch-and-release is the general rule here, as most anglers believe that their catch set free now will mean more quality specimens will return to spawn later. Unfortunately the slow sexual maturity rate almost assures that this angler will likely not be fishing when those young return to the same waters.

And speaking of spawning, it is NOT a good idea to troll for specimens who are looking to create fry. It's best to leave them undisturbed.

I'm so glad that I could share my words of wisdom with my fellow anglers.

I like to use Scent in my catches. Drakkar smelly jelly aftershave and then a couple of squirts of the spray.

Line is very important. You don't one that is hard or brittle. I like my lines to have a little bit of s-t-r-e-t-c-h to it. Usually you can get alot of bites, but to really set the hook, a promising future usually takes the cake.

Positioning of the boat is essential when the rod is in the holder.

For multiple hookups on multiple outings, remember that it's the "motion of the ocean" that allows for multiple hookups.

Videotaping the action will make believers out of your fishing buddies the next day. http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Always note: When you get skunked, you can always buy your fish, but sometimes it's not on special http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Always be prepared for rain, even if the forecast doesn't call for it, cause ya never know.

And last but not least, be careful of the "boots" you can pick up using a "crank"bait.

Boinking of the natives is ok in some parts, but usually most people only boink one and CnR the rest.

"Hey, man, let's RUN down there and catch one of those chrome steelies!!!"

"No, son. let's WALK down there and catch 'em all!!!" http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif
