How large of an anchor should I use for a 21' NR Seahawk? I'm looking at either a 30# or 40# with double claws and a folding shank.

Thanks,
aa

I would go with the 40lb. Also add a heavy chain about 7' in length.

There is nothing more frustration than sliding off anchor every time a wake hits you. Especially when your in a Hog Line!!

You may want to consider a kedge anchor. I started using one last summer. It seems to work well in a variety of bottom types. It's commonly used on the Rogue(rock and gravel). I can tell you it will hold a 24' boat in 50' of water with strong current and a sand bottom dependably. I believe my anchor is 20# model and has 6' of 3/8" chain. So much easier to handle than a heavy rocking chair anchor too.

I have a 21 foot Custom weld and 32lb is fine. 6 foot anchor chain with an additional 6 foot (kept in the boat) for rippin water on sandy bottoms (bonnie). If you have future plans for an anchor nest, don't get the folding anchor.

True, 40lb will stick to just about anything, but man that gets old haulin that around.

Why not the folding type anchor? I'm going to get a nest real soon, probably the Miller one and was going to get a 40 lbs folding anchor. Todd

I use a 30# river anchor in most places and an 40# in a couple other places. Both have various chain lengths and sizes.

If you have a good anchor roller/nest and it's properly mounted, you should not have to lift the whole anchor ever. I simply roll it right up and over the roller and into its place. When I'm ready to deploy it, I lift it only enough to set it on the roller so a flick of the rope is all it needs and over it goes......

Folding anchors have a sleeve that (may) in some anchor nest designs not fit well or at all.

Don't wait. Get that MillerMarine nest at the same time you buy your anchor. You won't be sorry and (like most of us) you will be kicking yourself later for waiting so long and breaking your back and scratching your bow.

I have a 21ft boat and 99% of the time I can anchor up with a 26 pound anchor and 6ft of chain. If I am going up to Bonnie, then I throw on the 40#.
