SEATTLE – A lack of rainfall already creating energy problems may now spell trouble for chinook salmon.
Puget Sound Energy says by this weekend, it may have to stop running water through the Baker River dams. That means newly-hatched chinook downstream in the Skagit River could face devastatingly low water levels.
PSE is being sued for mismanagement of the Baker River projects. Opponents accuse the company of running too much water through dams to make money selling power to California.
Any shutdowns are not expected to affect the company’s ability to generate power.
