I just bought a 15' Gregor with a 40 hp motor on it. The coast guard information sticker says that the max hp for the boat is 25. Am I going to get a ticket for this?

Be sure to have at least a hundred pounds of some kind of weight up on the bow. (This is a tiller set up right?)
I had a 25 on a 14ft gregor and it flew!

I just finished watching a boating video in which they claimed the Coast Guard can write you a ticket for violating ANY of the limits on the sticker.
Now, do they do that in Oregon - I don't know. I'm confident they have the write, if they want to.
From Oregon Marine State Board website:
Especially Hazardous Condition is operating a vessel in a condition that causes a hazard to the occupants or others on the waterways. Peace officers may instruct the operator to move the vessel to the nearest safe moorage if:
There are improper or insufficient personal flotation devices; fire extinguishers; backfire flame arrestors; or navigation lights between sunset and sunrise.
The vessel is overloaded or overpowered.
The vessel is leaking fuel.
you could detune the prop and a put a smaller pitch on it if it is scary. It will not help you with the CG, just safer.

It has a 40hp Mariner w/ a side console and remote steering.

Actually being over powered is a hazardous condition. You can be ticketed for it. Just as important because it is over powered, your insurance probably won't pay if you have any issues.
I went thru the same process when I bought my boat. The sticker said "Manual rated to 80 HP, Remote rated to 115 HP" I really wanted to use a Suzuki 140 pumped down to 100 HP with a tiller (manual) since it only weighed 9 lbs more than the Yamaha 115. Both the sales department and the manufacture said that it would work great, even when questioned about the sticker. I ended up going with a 115 pumped down to a 80 after talking with my insurance and some of the more knowledgable people on here. It just wasn't worth the potential headaches I could have in the future.

Convert it to a jet pump and you'd be about the HP per the sticker.

If I remember right Yamaha used to have a 28HP 2-Stroke Jet, that used the 40HP Powerhead.
If you're going to be playin in shallow water might not be a bad idea???
