I used one once (not that brand) and it scared me to death. The concept of portable tree stands is much more glamorous than actually climbing up a tree with one and sitting in it. Keep in mind the fact that I have a healthy fear of heights. After my treestand fiasco I managed to rattle in a 3pt. on the Willamette to within 20 feet while sitting camoflaged at the base of a tree, further convincing me not to climb with a stand again.. Joe

Where do you find nets with long enough handles to fish from a tree stand?

Being the masterful hunter that I am....remember I come from God's country and we have the highest population of deer http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif Hunting from a tree stand is the best way to harvest a deer besides doing a deer drive where you push the deer out of thick cover to shooters. Now this is the best method for hunting whitetail deer. Blacktail, I am not so sure about since I haven't started hunting out here in the PacNW yet. Yet that is..muh ha ha ha
The problem with hunting out here is the fact that people walk around and don't sit still and wait on the deer, so really scouting is not a big deal apparently to all the yo yo's in the woods (the majority). I talked with a couple of guys who've tried hunting out of stand out here and they said they won't do it anymore because they said that they haven't hunted one time out of one without seeing at least 2 or 3 people walk by their stand or just set up under their stand. Our public hunting land is different I guess in bama since you get to your spot and you sit still and wait. If luck is by your side then you harvest a deer: if you studied wind direction, time of day, and the deer sign around you beforehand.
See I don't know what kind of hunting you will be doing and if it will be on public land or not. I've never had to deal with public land since we have a huge farm where I hunt and we just got 400 more acres yesterday. Looking at all the people that flood public land during hunting season, it would seem safe to hunt out of a stand just to keep from getting shot by all the trigger happy inbreds. Tree Lounge I am very familiar with since I knew the owners quite well. I've heard nothing but good things about the stand from people that's used it, but it's just too big for me and I don't think it's too damn handy to carry up a mountain or into deep, thick, uneven woods. At least not to me, but if you bought the wheel for it = probably no problems then. Just remember to have a safety harness attached to the tree before you start to ascend the tree because your stand can slip. Just be careful and do your homework. It should pay off for you.

Geez hey_yall, whats up? Your last couple of posts have been well thought out and coherent. Stop takin that moonshine to work?
Hunting in the NW is different than most areas. The best method is to get access to private land because public land is very crowded. If you have to hunt public land (and its not impossible, just tougher), make sure that you scout before hand and then get to your stand early.
I like to rifle hunt, and I like to hunt a stand overlooking a treeline or canyon until mid morning. A lot of people do like to move around, but I've had my best success on stands.
Most people who use tree stands use them during archery season. There are less hunters around and you can set up the stand at an optimum location.

I don't think the river's are flowing that high. So I don't think you need to use one.
