I've got a multi point fuel injected Ford in my boat. The way this system works is, the fuel pump pushes fuel to the fuel rails, the fuel pressure regulator keeps the fuel at X psi. There is a fuel return line that returns the excess fuel to the tank.

My question is, what kind of fuel flow meter (system) can rate the flow of fuel?

hello, like waterdog recommended use a floscan system. when there is no return line, you use a single transducer setup for a gas engine installed between the fuel tank and the engine. if you have a kicker than you should tie into the fuel line after the sender that way total fuel consumption is measured. you can use one of thier tachs with the meter integrated into it, this simplifies intallation with out having to cut another hole in the dash.

Go to Floscan's web site. Under recreational boats, they offer a flowchart set-up that let's you match your motor to the meter that you will need. Enter the motor make or who did the marine conversion (they even have Kodiak listed), fuel system and HP and ola they will tell you which meter you need and the price. They also offer on on-line video for installation hints.

Lots of luck.

I have a floscan on a 315 yanmar in my 25 foot sled with the same type of return system. I have about 400 hours on it. Once it was calibrated it has worked out to be extremely accurate. The only problem is the extra expense over the non return system.

nunyet - What boat are you running? Bentz, Bloodsworth?

The 315 is a sweet engine. My next PW will have that for power.

Back on topic - How long did it take to get it dialed in? I have only been able to get mine within about 5%. Seems like one click up and I read too high and one down it's too low.

Waterdog: Its a Bentz , I think I put his kids through college as it my 7th one he has built for me. All have been great boats. We called flowscan while in the water and the guy that gives technical advice talked Brain Bentz through as we ran the boat.

This was the first instal that Bentz had done but turned out to be easy. One of the things that flowscan had us do was change the racor filter element in front of the flowscan from a 2 micron to a 10 as he said it would read better and there is a 2 micron in front of the engine itself.
