Fished the top of the tide this afternoon in the lower channel. Didn't get bit, but it was a pleasant day to be on the water.

Two boats whom we didn't get a chance to talk with were really working over a small area very intensely, giving me the impression that someone had hooked up today in that spot.

Of note, was the fact that we didn't mark as many fish as about 10 days ago.

Yeah, I saw your post Dustin, I'm glad you had some action.

In answer to your question, the spot being worked hard was upstream from the Gilbert River boat ramp, maybe 3 or 4 tenths of a mile, along the pilings on the SW bank.

They are coming! About 10 were taken last
Saturday that we knew of in the lower
channel. Not bad for this early, no doubt.

Hi ******,

Of those 10 caught, did you get any idea of what the hot rig was? WHole herring? Plug cut? Something else?

And if the bite was sporadic or linked to the phase of the tide. I've heard from one source that it's been as after the peak of high tide when it begins running out -- but I'm looking for confirmation.

Thanks!

So you fish the high slack in the channel? We've had our best luck on the main stem at low slack....

Hello Barnyard,

Those differences are what makes comparing notes so interesting.

Hot time is two hours before low slack for summer fish. Now, maybe the first two hours after high slack for springers. Bite on at first light or is it at 1pm now?

Again, comparing notes here, to help see the patterns is what makes this medium so valuable.

As stated above, it was primarily a trolling
show with herring/cut plug herring. I like to sit on the anchor, thus fish the high down to low and the change, so there is enough current to run my stuff. Standard
tide effect is slack and an hour either side of the change. Typical baits are herring, spinner and prawns and flatfish. Wrap your flatfish with herring or sardine. RT http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/cool.gif can school you on "how to" on that one, if you don't know. Really adds the 'trigger' to a flatfish. If trolling you can fish different depths or pulls, but primarily a typical near the bottom, looking up show.

Good catching to you. http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif
