Anybdoy doing any good from the jetties? Thinking about going to seafood and wine festival and hitting the jetties the next morning.
jeremy when is the seafood and wine festable we go down to yachats all the time always like to try something new doug

hey jeremy
take your trout pole down and jig for herring
it makes great bait for salmon and bottom fish.
the wife and i caught 2 limits last weekend down at newport in about 2 hours
get there early though parking gets pretty tough when the festival is going on
have fun!!!!

I will be in Newport this weekend also. We will be crabbing and looking for some sturgeon. Fishing for herring sounds like fun, my kids will be with me and they love to fish. How is it done? what, where. ect...

hey newbie..
your crabbing so i assume you have a boat..
well the wife and i just use our trout poles and they sell the herring jigs there at the marina...we run about 1oz weight on the end.
when you come out of the mariana in your bost take a right and head down towards the big green tank..there is a little cove there thats where we do really good..you'll know it right away if your in them.so if you don't get anything on the first cast move you boat 20 or 30 feet till ya find em..now these little critters are only about 6' down.
dont' forget the limit is 25 pounds per person.we crabbed last weekend and only got little ones..but then we didn't try very hard though we we're to busy getting herring

can you get herring from the bank or only from a boat?

hey jeremy
they should be in around docks by the boat ramp by this weekend..you just have a lot better chance when you have a boat..then you can move around till ya find them
