Well this forum reaches quite a few folks. The boar I was going to use has fallen through so I'm at a lost as to where to look to find a boar hog for stud service. Prefer a Yorkshire but will take what I can get if its decent at this point. I also have some cards out in the feed stores but any help will be appriciated.

Have you thought about using artificial insemenation? A person in your circumstance that has sows but no boar, AI is a great way to go. It's also economical. I've had great success with it.

I've done it with dogs with success but I don't know enough about the cycles of swine or how to test it when to order and so on. I'll check with my vet. I'm also looking into purchaseing one just so I never have this problem again.

Go the AI route if possible. The problem with Boars and Bulls etc is they get too big to mount the sow or cows and you have to eat them or send them to auction every few years. Pen and fence damage also with opposite sex around.

I agree with 7pointbull. Unless you own 10 or more sows stay away from a boar. AI is a real easy process with no vet needed. Here is a link to some information on it. I raised hogs for 10 years and have had a lot of experience with this so feel free to pm me if you have questions.
