My always safety conscious wife gave me a VHF radio for Christmas (a Quest-X GX1500S). Reading through the owner's manual the install does not seem to be too complicated. Since I have an aluminum boat, I'm always worried about an improper install that will create electrolysis and damage the hull. What precautions should I be aware of so as not to damage the radio or boat?
Any advise would be appreciated.
Thanks

Don't ground the radio to the hull.
Don't ground the coax to the hull.
Use large enough DC supply cables to reach the battery, and make sure both the positive and negative have have large enough fuses to handle the current draw and full TX.
Don't use a crimp on coax connector (see my tech tips post for help or PM me)
Make sure the antenna is at least 3 feet from any other antenna including your GPS antenna
make sure your antenna is at least 3 feet from where people will be on your boat.
If your radio has DSC capability and you will be providing GPS data to the radio - register for an MMSI number
Hope that helps
