I have a Riddle Marine 20' open jet sled with a 240 SJ. Some acessories were grounded to the hull and I fixed that by installing a ground buss and running a10 ga. wire to the negative terminal of the battery. My question is, should the motor be grounded to the hull? The motor is grounded to the battery as well as the hull and I don't want to create a hot boat situation. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The motor is already grounded to the battery through the starter. The hull should be grounded to the battery as well. But each should have their own seperate grounds to a common ground point, and not be grounded together. As Kevin pointed out, I was wrong when I stated the motor was grounded to the hull through the mounting bolts. For a lot more in depth information on this see Boatdog's post in the Electrical bonding thread I started earlier!

You cannot avoid grounding the motor to the hull as the bolts holding the jetdrive on to the powerhead go through the hull. With all due respect.....If installed per Merc's specs...The bolts (or pump studs) do not come into contact with the hull. The SJ pump & power head are isolated from any hull surface by a rubber mounting grommet & rubber ride plate seal.
