View Full Version : Anchor Nest?

I think "anchor nest" it what it is called. Nonetheless, I have a new boat and I am looking to outfit it for Columbia and Willamette anchor fishing. The anchor barely fits in the bow...in fact, I can barely open the windshield with the anchor up front - and will not be able to if the anchor shifts around at all. I would like to mount the anchor on the front of the bow...any suggestions of where to look, which is best, etc...stores? websites? Any help greatly appreciated.

MillerMarine is definitely the ticket. I love mine, don't know how I fished the columbia without it

Fishermens as already suggested. I have the motion marine nest, but in hind site I would get the Big Water instead

I used the Motion Marine style nest for five years, now I have the MillerMarine system, it's the difference between night and day.
Go Miller, you won't be sorry.

Thank you for the input. I went to fisherman's and saw both the motion marine and the other that they carry. Liked the look of the motion marine but sounds like it is not as good as others. I tried to look at millermarine.com but cannot seem to find what I am looking for. Any suggestions.
Also, is there someone that will install these or is it simple enough to do one's self? I have NO skills when it comes to those kinds of things and do not want to ruin anything on my boat.
thanks,

Just a few bolts or it can be welded on depends on your boat. Also if you have a bow chock it might need to be removed and you may want to add a clam cleat for the anchor rope. Sounds like your new to this - we all were at one time. BE VERY CAREFUL. Do not learn to anchor in the CR by trial and error, go out with someone who has done this before and also get the anchor fishing DVD or VHS and watch it - you will get some very valuable information from that.

what ever nest you buy insure your anchor is pinned or tied down when under power, I was with a firend running at 40+mph when his anchor decided to depart the boat when he hit a wave. it flew over the top of the boat bailing out rope, ball and anchor. very scarey.

I've got the Big Water and love it! It saves your back and the sides of the boat. The buoy, chain and anchor can be pulled into the nest without going out onto the bow. As Catchn points out you do need to pin or tie it down while underway. I've heard good things about the Miller Marine too.
I also searched Millermarine.com and couldn't find it. Could one of you who has seen the site double check the address and let us know. Thanks.

Not completely new. I have anchored on the Columbia and Willy several times, just not in this boat. I have had a 16 foot glass boat that was not really a fishing boat. I have had a bit of success in a boat that was not really designed to do what I did in in. My new boat is a "fishing" boat but is not set up to anchor in the Columbia and that is what I want to do. I am going to have to move some cleats and such - any suggestions on who to take it to?
thanks again,

I have the Big Water Anchor Assist. Purchased it from Stevens Marine in Tigard.
Money well spent IMHO.:)

Motion Marine can install for you. I had a Dierks roller on my boat. They removed it and installed a Motion anchor nest. I dont like how the Miller one sticks out so far.

I had to google it http://millermarineproducts.com/ I like it because I can stow my chain right on top of the anchor when nested. It has a slot cut in the side so you can hang your anchor and release it from tiller. The pin that holds the chain/anchor in place while traveling will not come out so you will have it when needed.

Not real hard to drill holes and turn a wrench. :) Just take your time and lay it all out. Check twice, drill or cut once.
BTW - drilling holes in your boat is really not as big of a deal as many make it out to be if you just think about what your doing. I do it a lot and all of the boats I get to poke holes in are brand new PW's. :D

The hardest hole to drill is the first. :D
