anyone have an opinion on those portable jump start batteries? gijoes has them on sale for 25% off right now and I'm considering buying one instead of doing the dual battery setup.
thanks,

I have one in my sled just in case has a air compressor and 6 LED lights on it ,I left the lights on for 3 days before they started to dim pretty amazing . they work great for jump starting a weak batt. Just make sure to get one with enough Amps to start your motor 4-500 should be plenty ... Tight Lines :meme:

I only have a single battery on the boat and carry a jump box as a back up. It has saved at least 2 fishing trips over the last few years which probably pays for itself. :yay: It has also saved fishing trips for several other fisherman at the docks. It also works well for letting the kids watch DVD's on the boat. The only downfall is you need to be sure to keep it charged.

I carry one in the truck and have not had to use it but it's cheap insurance

I would do the dual battery setup as well.

I also carry one in my boat for emergencies. If you have the room to carry one, thry're great, and very low ,maintaince. :)

When I was in high school I worked at Sears in the tire dept. We kept a couple of them under the counter. I can't tell you how many cars I've jumpstarted in my day (probably 1000+). I swear, some days all I did was jump start cars.

Some of those Soccer moms at the mall gave out pretty good tips for getting them back on the road.:yay:

We have them at work and I have one at home. It goes in the boat with me and they work great. Just keep it charged.

I've had to use mine once - but that was at the dock.

However I must warn as it was something pointed out to me by someone. If you run whitewater, free flowing/fast flowing rivers or are in areas where things can happen very fast - the dual battery provides very fast back up where a jumper isn't something that will be there with a flick of a switch.

And consider that your jumper battery probably isnt secured like a dual battery setup, per Coast Guard rules. I dont think a portable jumper battery is an equivalent level of eqt. on a boat compared to two properly secured and wired batteries with marine switch.

Go with a Dual Battery Setup and save the hassle of having to remember to charge it etc...

Dual Battery in boat is smart like $10,000.00 in the bank. Portable charger is smart like credit card with 10K limit.

:yeahthat:

Use the dual batteries and get a jump start battery for extra piece of mind and to help other unprepared boaters around you. it would be like 10K in the bank and a credit card with 10K limit just in case you need to make 20K for bail.

Well I'm going to jump into this again. :twocents: :twocents: What size boat are we talking here?, is there room for dual battery setup?, or are we talking 12,14, 16 ft boat with limited room and storage. My last 3 boat all had dual battery setups and I believe in them, but I had plenty of room too. I am now setting up a 15 ft boat, center console with limited storage. It came with a single battery, and I am going to use the battery jumper box for the backup. Reason.... I will mainly be using a 6hp trolling motor with no charging capability, the larger go fast motor does have charging capability so will have some charging going on. OK.... here is the main and most important part batteries just don't quit working for no reason, they will warn you, they need maintinence !!! You do your part and you will never get stranded. Sure be safe keep the backup oar (battery jumper box) just like the fire extingisher you and I carry and never use or hope to never use, they are great ho have when you need them.:bricks:
