Well I said I would post and let everybody know whats going on in the lower river for the smelt. I don't have a crystal ball to tell you if the little fish will be in the Cowlitz by this weekend. But I can tell you that the gillneters got smelt, I even had a report that a few netters pluged their nets. So I'll let you be the judge if you want try dipping this weekend or not. Good luck if you go...........Bobber Down

Concentrations were so thick, that some fishermen got half a ton in 15 minute sets. They appear to be moving upriver, hope they make it as far as the Cowlitz.

Thanks for the report guys. Think I'll give Terry a call in Cathlamet and see if I can unburden him of some... if he went out. Don't have time to dip.

Bobber and I-Fish,
Where are they gill netting at? I'm trying to make a decision to go over there on Saturday afternoon, but I don't know how far below the Cow the netters are.

Though the entire river from the mouth to bonneville is open, it sounded as if most if not all the catch occured around Astoria.

NorRivDave, ISG hit the nail on the head, on where the most of the netters got the smelt. If they got some further up river from Astoria, I haven't heard......Bobber Down
