Be extra careful opening e-mail attachments. The Love Letter virus is still out there. Somebody here at work got it. I don't know the specifics. Jennie? Can you help here?

This love letter virus, what exactly does it say? Does it normally have an attachment with it? I'm just curious.

Wasn't this the virus that was enormously "successful" against the cyber geeks who spend their life on the computer, and don't know any real people?? I believe it was an attachment that said you have an anonymous love letter. Perfect bait for the situation!!

It was opened by someone in our parent company, and quickly spread through his email address book, which included me. Our virus detection software read 'love letter' but it was an attachment that read 'very funny' under the icon.

It's a different strain of the virus. Find you an anti-virus program out there. I have Command Anti-Virus. I pity da foo who be sendin' me viruses as I can track the exact location from where it was sent, or originated from...muh ha ha ha ha

ifisher friends-
Email virii can't getcha if you don't open attachments! Scan everything and anything attached to Email 'cause these things auto-send. An attachment that you get from a friend could be dangereous and sent without his/her knowledge.
I've received the 'Seven Dwarfs' virus three times in the last week; a buddy of mine got it over a dozen times. http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
Be careful out there.

Hafta disagree with you on this one SailCat, thanks to the wonders of Micro$oft. Their Outlook and Outlook Express mail programs by default will run Javacode if the message is merely opened. Worse yet, if the message is previewed before opening it can STILL run the malicious code.
I found a webpage here (http://www.helpdesk.umd.edu/pc/apps/outlook2000/security/) that talks about setting your security preferences to safeguard yourself from these scripts.
Friends...surfing the Internet or receiving emails without precautions is like sleeping around. Ya don't protect yourself yer gonna end up with something that eats at your hard drive.

Heed the warnings in the above posts, folks! A buddy of mine at work just lost everything on his hard drive due to a virus chewing it up. Including his half-completed taxes! If I don't know who something is from, or even suspect it as being a virus, I typically delete it from my system completely. Shift + delete will dump it off your system.

I am such a net dummy! I did not know that virus's can be sent by e-mail. No wonder I've had a lot of colds this season. Please get well before you e-mail me anything!
