Does anyone know of a (non commerical)Crabbing forum on-line, or any other contacts for crabbing info on the Northern Coast (Nehalem Bay or Columbia)?
I recently tried my luck in the Columbia just west of Warrenton without success. Wondering if there are any particular areas that are better (not willing to cross the bar however)! Also curious about how good Nehalem Bay might be....
Thanks in advance!

Contact Jetty fishery for crabbing info on the Nehalem I know they have a web site but I haven't searched for it. Kelly Laviolette is the Krab King and can tell you what you need to know about the Nehalem.
May your pots be full

I hope this will help you out abit. We crab the Columbia in the Summer and fall. This way we can put our pots out and go Sturgeon or Salmon fishing (sometimes both) Just remember that the current in the Columbia is stronger than in the smaller bays. So you want to be sure you have at least a double float system on your pots. I usually don't crab any deeper than 25 -30 ft.
just south from buoy "20" find the shallow water and crab in there. We use Shad for bait. just cut it into 1/3's and put in the bait cage. Than Lower away. If you are using rings. check them every 15 minutes, otherwise your bait will be stripped and you will have no crab. If you have pots than go ahead and leave them out all during the incoming tide. Just as the tide starts to turn pull them on up and head to shore. You are done.
Of course if you can't make it out that far because of bad weather than crab around the canneries. that also is a good producer.
Good Luck

Went to the Nehalem a week ago Monday - the day it stormed and poured. The kids made it a little over an hour and then we had to bag it with just 2 crab to show for our trip. Noone else there, tons of little crab, shad for bait, 4 rings.
