View Full Version : Anchor Chock?

I would like to put some chocks on the bow of my boat so that I can adjust the position of the boat while anchored. I am wondering how many I will need on each side of the centerline, and how far to space them. I am also unsure which style to get. I would like something that I can bolt on. Any help would be appreciated.

On previous boats I usually just had 2 chocks mounted 18" on either side of center. If I needed more adjustment I'd use the sea anchors for a little more shear. That said, I've got 3 on each side of center spaced about 12" apart on the PW. These are welded on hooks.

Any decent marine store will have the bolt on kind, either in plastic or stainless. I've used both and either was fine to me. Just make sure you have enough space on the underneath side to work with. It can get pretty tight. :)

I went with clam cleats for quick, eazy release. 36 inches outside edge to outside edge works for me.:twocents:

Dealers like Stevens or Willie can weld them on an aluminum boat if you dont want the bolt on ones.

I run 3 on each side with 12 inch spread. That combined w/ kicker and sea bags and you can place yourself pretty much wherever you want on the hook. and makes placement in a hog line much easier - I boggles me to see boats w/ out them and trying to anchor in tight spots.

Before drilling holes you may want to go anchor up and move the rope to the locations you think you'll want to put the chocks. The width and bow angle/style of you boat will dictate where they're located. be sure not to go to far from center and to close to center or it may not track as your hoping.

Rich... that is one of the best setups I have seen on any boat. You can really micro tune your position and that is what is needed when fishing on anchor for salmonoids.

i use 2 inch 'C' clamps, very easy to move and adjust and no permanete screw holes. Cover both ends of the clamps with carpet or fabric for no scratches.

On my old boat, I used a lenth of short rope with one loop, slide a hook on then finish wth a knot. I would throw the loop over the cleat, then run the hook over the anchore line. I would then draw the tag end of the short rope back to the cleat. I would hold it until the boat settled, and then tie off. Worked out great, since I didn't want to drill more holes in my boat. And you can dial in your boat in a hogline like a pro every time. Hey, this is the cheap mans way.
