Hey Guys I just bought a T8 for my Rogue with power tilt  I thought I spent plenty of time checking up on the different motors before settling on a T8. Now I'm reading a lot of comments on how crappy the tilt units are :( is this a universal problem with them or just confined to certain types of usages ....Checks already cleared and She's bolted on so let me know what I'm up against Thanks Fishkisser

I had heard about the power tilt problems and went with the manual tilt. Glad I did, I don't need any maintenance headaches...

I saw the tilt at the sportsmans show and thought it was pretty cool though. Probably be pretty handy if you did a lot of boondogging!

I have a manual Merc 9.9 for a kicker, but I haven't heard from any of my friends having problems with their power tilt T8's..... Dunno.

My power tilt on my 2005 T8 went out in the first year, replaced under warranty.
The explanation I got, but was unable to verify:
When running on my big motor, the T8 is trimmed all the way up to get it out of the water. I can't trim it down to the tabs without the motor running in water. This causes hydraulic pressure on the valve holding it up and over time, the valve fails.
Since I run quite a bit in the ocean, there was a fair amount of bouncing going on with the T8 in the up position. After I had it fixed, I now trim the motor up and slide a block of wood under the motor, then trim it down to rest on the wood. This should theoretically take the pressure off of the valve. I don't have that many hours on it to see if this resolved the issue. I was told by the mechanic that this is not uncommon on these motors.
The more complicated the equipment, the more likely it will fail - that's been my experience.

I have been looking at a T8 to purchase and when I inquired with a local Yami dealer about reported problems with the lift unit he said that the company was aware of this and that it has been rectified in the new 2007 models.

I've been running mine (a lot) since 2003 without a hitch, knock on aluminum. I do keep it resting on the lock when trailering, and when on long boat rides. I wouldn't even think of buying a motor without the power tilt, once having owned one.

My T8 has been about the only issue free thing I have ever had on my boat. I run my boat alot and if you know me, my boat spends some time bouncing around in the ocean all summer. Issue free that is until I was told I could flush it running with nothing but a garden hose screwed into the adapter. It took a summer of that before the impeller fried but other than that man made issue, she has worked great.

My suggestion to fellow T8 owners is to tow it with the motor down. When running in choppy bouncing seas, trim your main motor up a touch and if need be, use your tabs to keep you from bouncing.

Happy boating...

Ive had a few bolts fall out of the Throttlel linkage other than that, no prblemo. I guess I better fit a piece of wood to mine for the tuna runs. Thanks for the warning. Mine is an 06 and for decoration mainly. :smirk:

I thought the T8 was designed to be flushed using a garden hose connected to the motor?

Flushed with a hose, yes it is but this adapter does not flush the bottom end .So when you run it using the adapter no water to the pump . Better off using clams on the shaft to flush, this will do a better job :twocents:

The flushing connection will flush the Yami motor properly.

You cannot however, run the motor on the flushing connection as it will dry hump the impeller. Must use flush plate or clam over the water intake if you want to run the motor on dry land.

As to the tilt problem I have now owned 3 T-8's on three different boats - never an issue nor have I heard of tilt problems but for one listed above. And I would even consider a motor without tilt on anything but a Drift boat.
