View Full Version : Question about Oregon tackle shops

I was down the coast of Oregon in October of 2000 and did some fishing and checking out tackle shops on my way north on 101. I had a question though. In a few of the tackle shops I saw an ambassadeur series called I do believe "trophy master". It had a reddish maroon frame. It had a beautiful feel and would smoothly spin like no ambassadeur I've ever fealt (I almost thought it was a spinning reel the way it kept turning). My big problem is, I come home to Washington to pick one up (I figured they were new and since I rarely visit the reel cases at my sporting goods shops that I must have missed them) and come to find out noone up here has heard or seen them. I was curious are these some sort of retrofit from an Oregon reelsmith or a special reel made by ABU for Oregon?
I really want to pick one up. A 6501 (gotta have a left hander) and wondered if they still sell them in Oregon is there a tackleshop with an online order page I can get one? Hmmmmm, maybe I should have RT bring one up on the Satsop float. http://www.ifish.net/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Thanks for any help. I've been waiting and waiting and noone local has any idea what I'm talking about and I want one.

check this link for the priceing from abbu.. You should be able to use this sight to find distributers near you.. Ya I just looked there are lots of dealers in WA. Shop arround you should be able to get a good deal.

Stealheader69:
I know the reel you are talking about. It is called "Trophy Collection" and is a 6500 TCS (Trophy Collection Series). I bought one last summer for the wifes trolling rod and you can't go wrong. I bought it at Tillamook Sporting Goods and have not seen it at other stores.

Hey RKB, 4u2fish, and Raptorwill, thanks for the insights. I know ABU's well and have over 20 ambassadeurs. I know them and love them well. It's none of the reels you guys have mentioned. OneLastCast has it dead on. He knows the one I'm looking for. It's like no other ABU I've seen for feel of the crank. I'll have to see if I can get in touch with them and see if there's a way to have one shipped this way. No where in WA do they carry this model from what I've seen.
Hey OneLastCast, there are 5 other sporting goods stores in Oregon that carries them. I saw them at quite a few different stores running up highway 101. Thanks for the info, at least I have a confirmation I'm not crazy.
Anyone have a webpage for Tillamook sporting goods? I wasn't very impressed with them, but I'm looking for a reel, not to shop there permanently. I do believe they're the ones with the "custom made" rods by marado aren't they? I remember being told by the owner of this sporting goods store that I "HAD" to have one of their rods and by a matching reel. I had to tell him that I was perfectly happy with my Lami's and Loomis's.
Thanks...Jerry

Steelheader 69,
I have a 6501 (left hand) TCS, Trophy Collection Series. Its a great reel.I paid around $100 for it. I think Fishermans Marine Supply in Portland still has them. I'll check. If you definitely want one, let me know the maximum you want to pay and I'll pick one up for you.
